Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, the leader of a global AI chipmaker, has drawn attention after unveiling his own distinctive criteria for hiring talent.
In an episode aired on Oct. 10, the tvN variety program “You Quiz on the Block” featured Huang, the CEO whose company leads the global AI market. The rarity of his appearance on a comedy-variety show generated strong anticipation ahead of the broadcast, and he captivated viewers with his approachable demeanor and sharp wit.
During the program, host Yoo Jae-seok asked Huang, “I heard you don’t just hire people who are smart. Is there a specific condition you especially look at?”
Huang replied, “Intelligence is basically a commodity now, and there are already countless people who are smart. In this era—where top talent churns out from great educational institutions and even artificial intelligence (AI) has arrived—simple intellectual ability can no longer be a differentiating advantage.”

Huang pointed to “humanity” as the most important value that matters more than intelligence. He said, “If you’re looking for a colleague to work with, you should choose someone who knows how to give,” adding, “A genuine desire for the other person’s success is the heart of giving.”
He also emphasized generosity and kindness as the qualities he pays the most attention to when hiring talent. “Those character traits are precisely the valuable real ability,” he added. “Kind and generous people will ultimately succeed no matter the environment.” He then left viewers with advice to fill their surroundings with people who have excellent character if they want to achieve success, conveying a lasting impression.
