Singer IU's new digital single 'From This Star' topped major music charts immediately after its release.
EDAM Entertainment said on the 11th that 'From This Star,' one of the double title tracks IU released the previous day, topped Melon's HOT 100, Genie's TOP 200 and Bugs' real-time chart. It also reached No. 2 on Melon's TOP 100. The accompanying track, 'Dear my crazy soulmate,' also settled near the top of major charts.
The song also performed strongly on global charts. It entered charts in 16 regions, including the No. 1 spot on the iTunes Top Songs charts in Singapore and Taiwan. The accompanying track also appeared on charts in nine regions, including a No. 1 ranking in Sri Lanka.
The music video for 'Dear my crazy soulmate' features actors Kim Young-ok, Na Moon-hee, Shim Dal-gi and Lee Som, who showcase exceptional on-screen chemistry. It recorded 2.68 million views within 14 hours of its release. Its unusual prison-set storyline has captured fans' attention.
The new song is IU's first release in a year, following 'Bye, Summer' in September last year, and serves as a pre-release track from her sixth studio album. IU, who participated in writing the lyrics for every track, will continue her activities by releasing the music video for 'From This Star' at midnight on the 16th.
