Actors Goo Gyo-hwan and Moon Ga-young star in the melodrama movie What If We, which is fiercely competing against the Hollywood blockbuster Avatar: The Way of Water at the weekend box office.
According to the integrated ticket sales network on the 9th, What If We attracted over 58,000 viewers in just one day, achieving a revenue share of 28.5% and rising to the top of the domestic box office. This marks the second consecutive day it has maintained the lead, surpassing Avatar: The Way of Water, which had held the top spot since its release on the 17th of last month.
Avatar: The Way of Water, which has now fallen to second place, drew in over 47,000 viewers the previous day, with a cumulative audience of approximately 5.763 million. Although it has given up its daily ranking to What If We, it still demonstrates strong performance in terms of cumulative audience numbers and revenue.
The third place at the box office is held by the animated film Zootopia 2, which added over 22,000 viewers in one day, surpassing a cumulative audience of 8.18 million. While its box office speed has somewhat slowed, it continues to maintain steady popularity among family audiences. Following that, the film The Divine Band, starring Jung Jin-woon and Kim Si-hoo, ranked fourth, while the romance film Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight, based on a Japanese novel, took fifth place.
The box office outlook for the upcoming weekend remains unpredictable. As of 9 AM that day, Avatar: The Way of Water has secured over 128,000 advance ticket sales, leading with a booking rate of 32.0%. What If We, which has reclaimed the top spot, is in second place with a booking rate of 17.1%, suggesting that the final weekend box office winner will be determined by the number of on-site viewers.
Meanwhile, Heartman, starring Kwon Sang-woo and Moon Chae-won, is set to be released on the 14th and has entered the rankings with a booking rate of 6.6%, indicating it will be a new variable in the upcoming box office.
