The movie 'What If We' has set a new record for pre-booking volumes for Korean romance and melodrama films, forecasting a box office sensation upon its release.
According to the integrated ticketing system, 'What If We' recorded a pre-booking volume of 118,389 tickets as of 7 AM on the release date, the 31st. This achievement surpasses the pre-booking rate of the animated blockbuster 'Zootopia 2' from last weekend, creating a fresh melodrama wave in theaters.
In particular, this record is significant as it exceeds the 116,000 tickets held by 'Decision to Leave', which was released in 2022 and had the highest pre-booking volume in the melodrama genre. Additionally, it shows an overwhelming difference compared to the pre-booking volumes on the release day of historically successful melodramas like 'Architecture 101' (18,417 tickets) and 'Your Wedding' (31,371 tickets), proving it to be an anticipated work that continues the new lineage of melodramas.
'What If We' tells the story of Eun-ho and Jung-won, who, after ten years, accidentally reunite and reflect on their past memories of love. It delicately portrays the memories of love that anyone might have experienced at least once, garnering high interest from prospective audiences even before its release.
With overwhelming pre-booking volumes signaling a glamorous start, attention is focused on whether 'What If We' can uphold the pride of romance films and achieve long-term box office success in the winter theater scene. The movie 'What If We' is currently being screened nationwide.
