According to the Korea Film Council's integrated computer network for movie ticket sales, Avatar: Fire and Ash attracted 265,055 viewers on its opening day, the 17th, recording a cumulative audience of 266,435 and claiming the number one spot at the box office.
Avatar: Fire and Ash, which premiered in South Korea on the 17th, tells the story of the Sully family, who are plunged into grief after the death of Jake and Neytiri's first son, Neteyam. As a new threat led by Varang emerges, the film depicts an even greater crisis unfolding on the planet Pandora, covered in fire and ash, with overwhelming visual beauty.
As expected from one of the year's most anticipated films, it proved to attract a hot interest from audiences with nearly 600,000 pre-sale tickets before its release. With over 200,000 viewers on its opening day, it has made a pleasant start, and the film industry is focusing on the overwhelming box office momentum it is expected to show over the opening weekend.
Meanwhile, Disney's animated film Zootopia 2, which had been enjoying a long run, dropped to second place on this day, adding 85,606 viewers. The current cumulative audience for Zootopia 2 stands at 5,631,269, marking the first time it has lost the number one position since its release on November 26. It is expected to soon surpass Zombie Daughter to rank second in the overall box office for the year.
In third place, The Neighbors gathered 9,154 viewers. The cumulative audience for The Neighbors currently stands at 455,155.
