Singer and actress Nana, who was a victim of a burglary, faced the absurd situation of being sued by the perpetrator, but was completely cleared of charges after being recognized for justifiable defense by the police.
The Guri Police Station in Gyeonggi Province officially announced on January 16 that they concluded there were no charges against Nana, who had been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault. With this decision, Nana has been freed from the mental anguish and unjust suspect status she experienced as a victim of the burglary incident.
The incident began last November when a man in his 30s, referred to as A, broke into Nana's residence. At that time, Nana and her mother were injured while subduing the intruder, to the extent that they required medical treatment due to the urgency of the situation. The perpetrator, A, was arrested on the scene for assault during the burglary, but suddenly filed a counterclaim against Nana, alleging that she attempted to kill him.
The police had been investigating Nana as a suspect according to the investigation procedures. During the investigation, A sent a letter to the media claiming that he did not possess a weapon and that it was actually Nana who tried to attack him with a weapon, expressing his grievances.
However, the police investigation results were the opposite of A's claims. A police official explained that it was confirmed that A entered while armed and that he clearly committed acts of violence, such as pushing Nana's mother and choking her until she lost consciousness. The physical confrontation that occurred while Nana was subduing A was a struggle to prevent him from using the weapon, and the alleged assault claimed by A was stated to be false.
After considering the circumstances and evidence at the scene, the police ultimately determined that Nana's actions constituted justifiable defense to protect her and her family's lives. This decision not to file charges has brought an end to the shameless counterclaim incident against Nana and her mother by the perpetrator.
