The comedy film “Wild Thing,” which brought lively laughs and a retro soundtrack to movie theaters, is now meeting viewers worldwide through Netflix.

Netflix said it will release director Son Jae-gon’s film “Wild Thing” simultaneously worldwide on the 31st. The film, released on June 3 and riding word of mouth into box-office success, is now moving its stage to the global streaming platform in about two months.

“Wild Thing” tells the story of “Triangle,” a three-member co-ed dance group that once dominated the music scene but was forced to disband after an unexpected incident. Two decades after the breakup, the members reunite, seizing what seems like a miracle’s last comeback opportunity. The film turns their tear-jerking, reckless attempt into a cheerful comedy action romp.

A standout point is the dazzling cast and the bold acting transformations. Gang Dong-won, Um Tae-gu, and Park Ji-hyun take apart their roles as Triangle members who perfectly recreate the feel of the 2000s, delivering performances packed with individuality. Joining them is today’s go-to actor Jo Jung-se, who plays the ill-fated ballad singer Choi Seong-gon, boosting the film’s completeness with his signature, sly acting.

“Love Is” song chart and challenge craze… Targeting the global market with subtitles in 32 languages

The virtual group Triangle’s debut track “Love Is” and the ballad song “You’re the One I Like” featured in the film surged into the upper ranks of real music charts. On top of that, the dance-challenge craze centered on short-form platforms further proved its buzz.

Netflix carried out extensive localization so that audiences around the world can enjoy the work without language barriers. It provides subtitles in a total of 32 languages, including French, Portuguese, and Chinese, along with dubbed tracks in 15 languages such as English, Spanish, and Japanese.

According to the distributor Lotte Entertainment, it aims to expand the heat proven in domestic theaters to audiences worldwide through Netflix. Attention is on whether Korea’s uniquely quirky and upbeat comedy can build a global fandom beyond language and cultural barriers. You can check out the reckless challenge of “Wild Thing,” which hit theaters this summer, on Netflix on the 31st.
