Actors Goo Gyo-hwan and Moon Ga-young star in the film 'What If We', which has maintained the top spot at the box office for 13 consecutive days, creating a melodrama craze in theaters.
According to the integrated computer network of movie ticket sales by the Korean Film Council on the 24th, 'What If We' (directed by Kim Do-young) attracted 49,889 viewers on the 23rd alone, firmly holding onto the box office No. 1 position. As a result, the film's cumulative audience has reached 1,796,623, nearing the milestone of 1.8 million viewers.
Released on December 31 of last year, 'What If We' is an emotional melodrama that tells the story of Eun-ho (played by Goo Gyo-hwan) and Jung-won (played by Moon Ga-young), who, after 10 years, accidentally reunite and revisit traces of their past memories. The delicate emotional performances of the two lead actors and the narrative that resonates deeply with audiences have contributed to its steady box office success since its release.
In particular, since surpassing the Hollywood blockbuster 'Avatar: The Way of Water' on the 11th, 'What If We' has demonstrated its strength by not relinquishing the No. 1 position even once. It has been praised for proving the storytelling power of Korean-style melodramas amidst flashy blockbuster films.
Meanwhile, the second place at the box office was taken by 'The Divine Fury', which attracted 26,432 viewers, with a cumulative audience of 554,581. 'Avatar: The Way of Water', which has maintained a long-standing position in the top ranks, added 20,690 viewers to remain in third place, but has proven its ongoing box office power with a cumulative audience of 6,469,901.
As 'What If We' leads the melodrama syndrome in the winter theater scene, the film industry is focused on how quickly it can reach 2 million viewers starting this weekend.
