The legend of director Makoto Shinkai has been reborn in live-action. The movie '5 Centimeters Per Second' has created a fierce box office storm from the early days of its release, surpassing a cumulative audience of 60,000.
According to the integrated computer network of the Korean Film Council on the 4th, the film '5 Centimeters Per Second', directed by Yoshiyuki Okuyama, conquered the 60,000 audience mark just 6 days after its release. This is a result that surpassed the final score of the original animation, which recorded a cumulative audience of 54,057 when it was released in Korea in 2007, in less than a week.
The film captures the poignant love and longing between Takaki and Akari, who shared precious childhood memories but live their lives at different paces as adults. It perfectly realizes the original's unique lyrical sensibility with live-action visuals, firmly maintaining the number one spot at the box office among contemporaneous releases and art films since its release.
In particular, this box office trend is noteworthy as it is faster than the initial box office speed of 'Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight' and '10 Years Left to Live', which led the domestic Japanese romance film craze. The Makoto Shinkai syndrome, which continued with 'Your Name' and 'Suzume's Door Locking', seems to be expanding into live-action films as well.
'5 Centimeters Per Second', which has stimulated the emotions of not only original fans but also general audiences, is currently being screened with great acclaim in theaters nationwide.
