Actor Jung Joon left a cautious yet firm message of support for his colleague Jo Jin-woong, who declared his retirement from the entertainment industry, raising the topic of 'forgiveness'.
On December 7, Jung Joon posted a lengthy message on his Instagram, expressing his complex feelings about Jo Jin-woong's past controversies and retirement decision. He cited the example of Paul, who was someone that imprisoned believers in Jesus, but later became the author of the Book of Romans in the Bible, stating, "If we have to live with our mistakes on our face, no one would be able to stand in front of the public."
Recalling Jo Jin-woong's early days, Jung Joon said, "I can't forget how he always arrived early on set and humbly took care of the staff." He added, "While it doesn't mean that his mistakes were right, if the current him, who has lived reflectively, has grown into an actor we love, then we need to think about how to use the word 'forgiveness'."
At the end of his post, Jung Joon concluded with hashtags like "#John8:7" and "#NotNow".
Previously, Jo Jin-woong was embroiled in controversy when it was revealed that he had a history of serious crimes during high school, leading to juvenile protection measures. Following this, his adult history of assault and drunk driving also came to light, leading to a wave of criticism, and on the 6th, he officially announced his retirement, stating, "I will stop all activities and put an end to my acting career."
Below is the full text from Jung Joon.
Paul was someone who traveled the country imprisoning those who believed in Jesus.
And after he met Jesus, he wrote the letters of Paul that are in the Bible and recorded the Book of Romans, which is the doctrine of believers.
Forgiveness... If we have to live with our mistakes on our face,
no one would be able to stand confidently in front of the public.
Neither would I... I vividly remember my brother's early days.
He always came early to the set, and even without a car, he would come to the set,
but he always greeted humbly and helped the staff, waiting until all the crew left before he left...
Although I have never met or contacted him since then... that image has not faded from my mind, and I have always watched and supported his works.
I am not saying that my brother's past mistakes were right...
I believe he has paid the price for his sins during his youth.
If that label has to follow him for a lifetime...
We have not learned where to apply the word forgiveness.
My favorite character in the Bible is Paul.
If we were to remove the word forgiveness,
we would not have seen the letters of Paul, nor would we have known about the faith in Jesus that he speaks of.
My brother's childhood was wrong, but
if he has lived a reflective life and grown into a person who brings us laughter and joy as an actor we love...
We now want to think about how to use the word forgiveness.
