Ahead of its first broadcast, SBS’ new Friday-Saturday drama 'Kim Bu-jang' has abruptly unveiled a tense cast relationship chart, drawing attention from prospective viewers.
Unveiling on the 26th, 'Kim Bu-jang' is an so-called 'dad universe' revenge saga that depicts an ordinary-looking father who boldly takes on the world’s most dangerous fight to protect his precious daughter.
A star-studded lineup of helpers rallied around So Ji-sub…with Choi Dae-hoon and Yoon Kyung-ho in the mix
At the center of the released cast relationship chart is the protagonist Kim Bu-jang (played by So Ji-sub), who lives under cover as an accounting team leader at a mutual aid savings bank. Surrounded by him—an ordinary office worker wearing the mask of his job—various figures linking past and present are intertwined like a web, sparking curiosity.
The presence of Sung Han-su (played by Choi Dae-hoon), Kim Bu-jang’s steadfast ally and longtime friend, and Park Jin-cheol (played by Yoon Kyung-ho) also stands out. A former secret agent, Sung Han-su is expected to deliver as a reliable aide with overwhelming martial arts skills. Park Jin-cheol, who came from the Marine Corps Veterans Association, will also play his part as Kim Bu-jang’s helper through unwavering loyalty and grit.
Fates of divided daughters and a massive standoff…an intense, breathless sparring match with Joo Sang-wook
The drama’s full-blown conflict kicks off through the relationships among the children. Kim Bu-jang’s cherished daughter, Kim Min-ji (played by Seo Soo-min), and Joo Kang-chan’s daughter, Joo Hye-ri (played by Yoo Ji-an), get swept up in an unexpected incident, forming a tight standoff between the two fathers.
Also joining in are Nam Sil-jang (played by Lee Dong-ha), Joo Kang-chan’s loyal chief of staff, and Geum-i-ba-leu (played by Cho Bok-rae), a man consumed by revenge, setting the stage for a development no one can predict. In addition, everyday figures such as Yang Jeong-a (played by Son Na-eun), a fellow office worker, are intricately connected as well, heightening expectations for hidden twists.
On top of that, the story adds the relentless pursuit by Kang Gook-cheol (played by Won Hyun-joon), director of the Special Mission Bureau, the ruthless revenge of a North-sent operative Park Kang-sung (played by Kim Seong-gyu), and even the massive confrontation involving Ri Eung-ryeong (played by Lee Jae-yong), head of the National Intelligence Service’s unit for operations targeting South Korea—announcing the birth of a well-made spy action beyond a simple family drama.
Rising to the top ranks of buzz even before the broadcast, 'Kim Bu-jang' is set to deliver a sharp dose of catharsis this summer at home through the story of a man who makes a desperate transformation for his family. SBS’ new Friday-Saturday drama 'Kim Bu-jang' airs for the first time on the 26th at 9:50 p.m.
