In SBS’ “Wonderful World,” Im Ji-yeon flawlessly transforms into a villain from the Joseon era, driving its own record-high viewership of 10.4% with acting that cannot be replaced and taking over the living-room TV audience.

Actor Im Ji-yeon seized the weekend primetime living-room audience with overwhelming acting while possessed by the spirit of a vicious villain from the Joseon era.

In SBS’ currently airing Friday-Saturday drama “Wonderful World,” Im Ji-yeon plays Shin Seori, an anonymous actor whose character is infused with the spirit of Gang Dansim, one of Joseon’s most notorious villains. She’s bringing to life a three-dimensional character that transcends the period, fully digesting the role in her own color and helping drive the show’s popularity.

In the episode broadcast on the 30th, Shin Seori delicately expressed the growing feelings toward Cha Segye, her counterpart in the drama. In particular, a scene in which she gives a direct jab to Hong Daepyo, who points out their relationship—saying, “This isn’t the Joseon era. What kind of dusty old remark is that?”—delivered a satisfying “sida” charm to viewers. Her bold pushback against absurdities in modern society stood out.

From a Refund Odyssey With a Goddess Sect to a De-armored Romance

The character’s quirky and lovable charm added energy to the drama.

Scenes such as going on an odyssey to the Goddess Sect to demand a refund from a cult leader, or sprinkling seeds in a flowerpot after she can’t overcome her jealousy, were portrayed in a fun way that captures the mindset of someone falling in love. Im Ji-yeon’s detailed everyday-life acting drew deep resonance from viewers.

Another point to watch is the romance synergy as she plays with the emotions while handling the cold-blooded conglomerate heir Cha Segye. The process of a rational man growing close to Shin Seori—paired with Im Ji-yeon’s endearing acting—pushed the excitement level to its peak.

Breaks Its Own Record With 10.4% … Proving the Popularity Boom

Im Ji-yeon’s limitless ability to inhabit characters led to a steep upward trend in viewership.

According to Nielsen Korea, episode 8 of “Wonderful World” recorded nationwide viewership of 10.4%, setting a new personal best. With word of mouth sparking a popularity surge, expectations are growing for the new feats Im Ji-yeon will show during the drama’s plot as it reaches its turning point.

“Wonderful World” is a war-like romance comedy between Shin Seori, an anonymous actor turned evil, and Cha Segye, a conglomerate heir dubbed a monster of capitalism. It airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 p.m. on SBS.
