
During Super Junior’s 20th anniversary celebratory concert, the safety barrier in the seating area collapsed, causing an accident in which audience members were injured.
According to SM Entertainment, the group’s agency, on the 6th, three audience members fell after part of the safety barrier at the World Tour “Super Show 10” show held the previous day at KSPO Dome in Songpa-gu, Seoul, collapsed. The incident is believed to have occurred during the encore stage, when member Ryeowook approached closer to the audience to communicate with fans; fans then crowded toward the barrier, and it was unable to withstand the load.
Immediately after the accident, the injured were taken for actions by on-site medical staff and then transported right away to nearby hospitals for detailed examinations and treatment. According to the medical staff’s assessment, the injured were advised that they would need about two weeks of rest and treatment due to sprains and bruises.
SM Entertainment said it issued an official apology regarding the situation and stated that it would do its best to ensure the accident is properly handled. A company official said that it deeply apologizes to the audience members and their families who were harmed by the incident, adding that it would not hold back on every effort necessary, including support for medical expenses, so that the injured can fully recover.
The company also emphasized that, as the event organizer, it fully recognizes the heavy responsibility for the accident, and that for future performances it will significantly strengthen safety inspections of facilities to ensure the same kind of incident does not happen again, while taking every measure to manage audience safety.
This year, Super Junior is currently carrying out a large-scale world tour to mark its 20th debut anniversary, and the Seoul show was an important stage to kick things off. As unexpected news of a safety accident has surfaced, more thorough on-site control and the preparation of safety measures are being called for in the future during the course of the performances.
