Top domestic actors Jung Woo-sung and Hyun Bin, along with the renowned director Woo Min-ho of 'The Insider' and 'Harbin', have unveiled the new Disney+ original drama 'Made in Korea'. This work marks the first OTT appearance for all three, and it has garnered significant attention since its production stage, especially as it is Hyun Bin's return to the screen after six years.
The production presentation for 'Made in Korea' was held on the morning of the 15th at the Grand InterContinental Seoul in Gangnam, where director Woo Min-ho, along with main cast members Hyun Bin, Jung Woo-sung, Woo Do-hwan, Seo Eun-soo, Won Ji-an, Jung Sung-il, Kang Gil-woo, Noh Jae-won, and Park Yong-woo, attended in large numbers.
'Made in Korea' is set against the tumultuous backdrop of the 1970s, depicting the story of Baek Gi-tae (Hyun Bin), who has ambitions for wealth and power, and prosecutor Jang Geon-young (Jung Woo-sung), who risks everything to stop him, as they face a massive incident. The tumultuous lives of monstrous humans born from a harsh era form the main narrative.
This work is particularly special as it marks the first OTT appearance for all three: director Woo Min-ho, Hyun Bin, and Jung Woo-sung. Hyun Bin's return to drama comes after about six years since the tvN drama 'Crash Landing on You', and he collaborates with director Woo again following the film 'Harbin'.
Hyun Bin expressed satisfaction, stating, "I gained a lot of trust in the director while working on 'Harbin'. He has the ability to draw out new sides of actors." He also mentioned, "If 'Harbin' was a project with a heavy responsibility due to portraying a real person, this time, it’s a fictional character, so I had expectations and joy about the work."
Director Woo also boasted of his unique chemistry with Hyun Bin, saying, "Since 'Harbin' was a challenging project, this time we filmed freely without worrying about each other." He humbly stated that he was "lucky" to cast such talented actors, while confidently asserting, "This will be the most fun project I have ever filmed."
The chemistry among the actors was excellent. Woo Do-hwan expressed happiness at acting alongside great actors, including Jung Woo-sung and Hyun Bin, and thanked them for their advice and consideration. Jung Woo-sung and Hyun Bin also recalled, "The filming set was hot every moment, and we acted hard with the desire to do well."
'Made in Korea' features outstanding performances from supporting actors like Jung Sung-il (Cheon Seok-jung), Noh Jae-won (Pyo Hak-soo), and Park Yong-woo (Hwang Guk-pyeong), raising expectations for its unpredictable narrative.
Meanwhile, when asked about the recent personal controversy surrounding Jung Woo-sung, he replied, "Today, we are gathered here for the work, so I find it difficult to talk about personal feelings or changes. I ask for your understanding," avoiding a direct answer and urging anticipation for the work.
'Made in Korea', which reportedly has a total production cost of about 70 billion won, will premiere with two episodes on the 24th, followed by two more on the 31st, one on January 7, and one on January 14. Following Season 1, Season 2 is also confirmed to be released in the second half of next year, heralding the birth of a major series.
