The leads of the legendary drama “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God,” which left a lasting mark on the history of South Korean TV, will reunite dramatically as it reaches its 10th broadcast anniversary.
First aired on tvN in 2016, “Goblin”—titled “Goblin” in Korean as “쓸쓸하고 찬란하神 — 도깨비”—sparked a massive sensation at the time, becoming the first cable drama in history to surpass a 20% viewership rating. Even after it ended, the series went on to be loved by viewers worldwide through global OTT platforms, and is widely regarded as a representative piece that helped lead the spread of the Korean Wave. It also swept major awards such as the Baeksang Arts Awards in 2017 and the Korea Drama Awards, earning recognition for both popularity and artistic quality.
The newly planned “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God 10th Anniversary (tentative)” special is expected to once again prove the power of a masterpiece—its strength to remain talked about even after a long time. The concept brings together the key stars who drove the drama’s success—Gong Yoo, Lee Dong-wook, Kim Go-eun, and Yoo In-na—and takes them on a special journey. The cast plans to look back on hidden stories from the filming and memorable scenes and iconic lines, sharing the deep meaning the work left behind.
In particular, this special marks both the 10th anniversary of “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God” and a special edition for tvN’s 20th anniversary, adding extra symbolism. A tvN source said, "Beyond the time of its original broadcast, “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God” remains a symbolic work that continues to be loved even to this day," adding, "Through this special, we plan to bring back viewers' precious memories and evoke nostalgia for a life-changing series."
They continued, “Please look forward to it, as the actors' chemistry and the work’s profound resonance—which make it feel as if ten years have not passed at all—will be returning to find the audience once again.” Fans at home and abroad are paying close attention to the news of the “Guardian” team reuniting, proving the impact that never fades as time goes by.
