After being cleared of drug charges, G-Dragon has expanded his legal response—following a massive wave of lawsuits against online haters, he has now also taken legal action against the representatives of outlets spreading false information.

Singer G-Dragon has significantly escalated the level of his legal response to defamation and the distribution of false information. It was confirmed that, beyond suing individuals who write malicious comments, he has also included representatives of online media outlets that produce fake news as targets of the lawsuits.

According to legal and entertainment industry sources on the 23rd, G-Dragon’s side submitted a defamation complaint against certain representatives and operators of some online media outlets that have continued reporting unfounded allegations about drug use in the past. They are accused of maliciously distorting G-Dragon’s everyday actions and raising reckless suspicions.

After the police investigation concluded with a final decision to dismiss all charges, proving his innocence, G-Dragon declared a zero-tolerance principle in order to restore his tarnished reputation. It reflects his strong determination to hold people fully accountable, with no leniency whatsoever, for the spread of false information and malicious slander.

Previously, on the 24th of last month, his agency, Galaxy Corporation, said that together with the law firm Yulchon, it had carried out a large-scale lawsuit against more than 100 people who posted hateful comments. This move has been regarded as exceptional and forceful because it targets not only individual netizens but also the media outlets that are the source of the fake news.

Inside and outside the entertainment industry, people believe this case will serve as a warning against reckless “cyber-lynching” behavior and the reporting practices of malicious media outlets. Attention is focused on whether new legal standards will be established for defamation crimes committed under the guise of freedom of expression.

In relation to this, G-Dragon’s agency said it is currently verifying the detailed facts regarding the lawsuit against the media outlet representative and took a careful stance. Interest is particularly high in how G-Dragon’s tough response toward the origin of the fake news will lead to any changes in how the entertainment industry as a whole handles malicious comments and false reporting in the future.
