
Actor Jo Jin-woong has announced his official retirement and halted all activities just a day after the controversy surrounding his past as a juvenile offender resurfaced during his high school years.
On the 6th, Jo Jin-woong stated through his agency, People Entertainment, "I sincerely apologize for disappointing everyone who has believed in and supported me due to my past misconduct."
He continued, "I humbly accept all this criticism and officially declare that I will halt all activities and put an end to my career as an actor."
Regarding his retirement decision, Jo Jin-woong said, "I believe this is the rightful responsibility and duty I must take for my past mistakes, and I will do my best to reflect on myself as a human being moving forward."
Previously, Jo Jin-woong was at the center of controversy after allegations arose that he had faced criminal charges for robbery and rape under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes during his teenage years and had received juvenile protection measures. His agency admitted to some of the allegations the day before, stating, "There were wrongful actions during his minor years," and issued an apology.
