Actor Kwak Do-won bowed his head and officially apologized after three years since the controversy over drunk driving erupted. He expressed his intention to resume activities while showing responsible behavior through actions.
On the 19th, Kwak Do-won acknowledged in an official statement that he committed a serious mistake of drunk driving in 2022. He conveyed his sincere apologies to everyone who was hurt and disappointed by the incident. Although he had previously expressed his apologies through his former agency, this is the first time Kwak Do-won has issued a personal apology.
In the statement, Kwak Do-won confessed that he spent countless hours questioning whether he was worthy to stand before people after the incident. He also added that he deeply contemplated what attitude he should have as a person before being an actor.
He expressed his regret for the delay in the release of his works due to his controversy. Kwak Do-won mentioned the movie "Firefighter," which was released last year, and the recently released Tving original series "Villains," stating that he feels sorry for not being able to apologize sooner and missing the timing for the announcement.
Kwak Do-won also shared his commitment to future activities. He emphasized that he would gradually prove his responsible behavior through actions that he had not shown before, rather than hastily seeking forgiveness. He plans to demonstrate his sincerity through his attitude in life, not just words.
Previously, Kwak Do-won was caught driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.158% in September 2022 in Jeju Island. As a result of this incident, he received a summary order to pay a fine of 10 million won the following year.
Due to the fallout from the controversy, the lead film "Firefighter," which was completed in 2020, was indefinitely postponed and was only able to meet audiences in December of last year. Additionally, the drama "Villains," which was completed in 2022, was released in full on Tving on the 18th, later than scheduled.
